Built-in mudroom cabinet with shelves and a window in a Connecticut home

Interior and exterior carpentry for Connecticut homeowners. Trim, finish work, custom built-ins, and rotted wood replacement, inside the house and on the exterior. Twenty years on the tools, licensed and insured.

Carpentry That Works Inside and Outside the House

Carpentry covers two different problems. Inside the house it is detail work that people see every day. Outside it is protection, because trim and fascia are what keep water out of the framing. Mosquera Construction handles both, on the same project when it makes sense.

Signs Your Home Needs Carpentry Work

  • Trim Separating from Walls

Trim pulling away from the wall, or corners opening up every winter and closing again in summer.

  • Soft Wood Outside

Soft spots in fascia, soffit, or window trim that give way under a screwdriver instead of resisting.

  • Paint That Keeps Failing

Paint failing in the same place every two years, which usually means wood underneath is holding water.

  • Doors and Stairs Moving

Doors that stick in the frame, stair treads that move, or shelving that sags under normal weight.

How a Carpentry Project Works

  1. Site Visit

We look at the wood, not just the room. Rot gets traced to the source before quoting.

  2. Written Scope

You get a written scope with materials, profiles, and timeline. Nothing starts until you review and approve it.

  3. Cut and Install

Cuts are made on site so the trim fits the actual room. Primed before install, not after.

  4. Walkthrough

We walk the work with you, correct anything on the list, and clean the area before leaving.

Carpentry Questions from Connecticut Homeowners

What is the difference between rough and finish carpentry?

Rough carpentry is the structure, framing, sheathing, and anything that gets covered later. Finish carpentry is what stays visible: trim, casing, crown, built-ins, and stair parts. We handle both, though most calls we get are for finish work and repairs.

Can you match the trim in an older home?

Usually, yes. Older Connecticut homes often have profiles that lumber yards stopped stocking decades ago. We either match the profile with custom knives or shape it by hand. Where a full match isn't possible, we'll tell you before the work starts.

Do you replace rotted exterior wood or cover it?

We replace it. Covering rot with new trim or vinyl traps the moisture and spreads the damage into framing. We cut back to solid wood, find where the water is getting in, correct that, then install new primed material.

Do you paint the carpentry after it is installed?

We do. Interior and exterior painting is one of our service lines, so trim can be installed, caulked, primed, and painted in the same project. New wood does not sit bare through a season and start to weather.

Send photos of the trim, the rot, or the room you want finished.
